    Amy’s Reading List

    • Ms. Marvel (2014-2015)

Ms. Marvel by G. Willow Wilson & Adrian Alphona

Ms. Marvel has opened the floodgates of Marvel taking some new, bold chances on the creators and characters who play in their universe. I'd say that includes my work on Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. G. Willow Wilson and artist Adrian Alphona generated a new character, a woman of color no less, and wove a tale that was so outstanding and original that nothing could stop Kamala Khan from becoming a superstar.

    • Runaways (2005-2008)

Runaways Vol. 2 by Adrian Alphona & Brian K. Vaughan

If you're into Adrian Alphona's art in Ms. Marvel, you really should check out his first book, Runaways. I'm recommending the second season of the book simply because by this point Adrian's work is truly his own. But you should actually read it all and witness Adrian's insane growth, and DARE I MENTION Brian K. Vaughan writes this? I love everything he writes, but Runaways is certainly my favorite.

    • All-New Ghost Rider (2014-2015)

All-New Ghost Rider by Felipe Smith & Tradd Moore

You might see a theme with my choices -- I follow artists and I like new characters. Enter insane writer/artist Felipe Smith writing hot-rod-driving Robbie Reyes, and does Felipe draw it? NO, but even better: He teams up with Tradd Moore. Moore has the most original style--NOBODY is like him, and his art is amazingly well-suited to Felipe's writing. The book bleeds speed and has real heart to it. Don't pass it up.

    • Ultimate Comics Spider-Man (2011-2013)

Ultimate Spidey by Brian Michael Bendis & Sara Pichelli

I have a real soft spot in my heart for new characters, and watching their origin stories. I'm thankful writer Brian Michael Bendis agreed enough to bring Miles Morales into the world. It feels like you're right there with him, which is also thanks to artist Sara Pichelli. I learn something from her art every time I look at it, and I'm not quite sure how she is so skilled, but she is. I will read anything she draws.

    • The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl (2015)

Squirrel Girl by Ryan North & Erica Henderson

What I like most about this book is that it's done so WELL. It's like that thing on the restaurant menu that sounds super random and you know it'll be good because how would it have made it this far without being awesome? Comedy isn't easy--especially in comics where you don't have complete control of the timing--but writer Ryan North is legitimately funny and artist Erica Henderson delivers every crack perfectly.
